Tutorial for Round 25 of Robes

Row 25 of robes (red stitches are row 25, they should be black, but I thought this would make them easier to see). These instructions are for Harry Potter doll robes. The graduation doll robes are the same method, but are slightly bigger. For the graduation doll, you 7 sc on the robes, 12 sc around arm, 10 sc on robes, 12 sc around other arm, 7 sc back on the robes.

  1. 5 sc on main part of robe (your robes will be longer than this – I cut it short) (7 sc for graduation doll)

2. 12 sc around first arm

  • The picture above is how you insert the hook for the first sc on the arm – you can insert the hook into any stitch in the last round of the arm
  • 12 sc around first arm

3. 10 sc on robes

4. 12 sc around second arm

  • This is how you insert the hook for the first sc on the second arm – you can insert it into any stitch in the last round of the arm
  • 12 sc around the arm

5. 5 sc on robes (7 sc for graduation doll)

The next row is worked in the red stitches from this row.

  1. Thanks for clarifying that, I did do it right!
But then the pattern goes on to reduce the stitches and I can’t get the doll’s arm in it?
And it hangs very oddly, not like yours at all……So sorry, but please help?

    1. Ah shoot! I think I see the problem – after row 25 there is two rows of sc, which I’ve numbered 26-27 and then I’ve numbered the next row 26 as well. I’ll renumber them. Did you miss the two rows of sc and go straight to the decrease row labelled row 26?

        1. It is correct – you should have 44 stitches at the end of row 25 – 5 from the front, 12 from the first arm, 10 from the back, 12 from the next arm and another 5 from the other side of the front. If it doesn’t sit well decreasing then next row (perhaps for some yarns it might not) then you could work 44 stitches across all of those from row 26 (including around the arms again) before decreasing. I hope that helps.

  2. Hi, thank you for taking the time to publish these patterns. I’m doing Ron at the minute and have a problem with his cape. I have done row 25 as above with no issues but cannot work out how to decrease at 26 without it affecting the size of the arm opening. Could you clarify this row please?

    1. Hi Jacqueline, I’ve added a link to a photo tutorial of round 25 – although it sounds like you have that round sorted. If the robes aren’t sitting right decreasing in Row 26 try working a row of sc (44 sts) first and then working the decrease row. Hope that helps 🙂

  3. Attaching the arms/1st row: Do I begin Rnd 25 with a Sc going outside to inside of the arm & then around?
Rnd 26: Am I still making SCs going from outside to inside of the stitches in the arm piece?
