Free Badger Dishcloth or Afghan Square Knitting Pattern

Free Knitting Pattern Badger Washcloth Afghan Square

Our latest creation is a free knitting pattern for a Badger Square!

This square would work great as a washcloth or dishcloth , or you could put it together with some of the other squares to make an afghan – you could even use the other Harry Potter house animal squares – Lion, Snake, Eagle.

Size and Materials

Size depends on yarn and needle size used:

With DK/Light Worsted Weight yarn and 4 mm (US 6, UK 8) knitting needles, finished squares are approximately 22 cm x 22 cm (8.5 inches x 8.5 inches)

With Worsted Weight yarn and and 4.5 mm knitting needles (US size 7, UK size 7) finished square is approximately 26 cm x 26 cm (10 inches x 10 inches)

Any sized needle and yarn can be used (please refer to yarn label for recommended needle size), however different needle and yarn sizes will produce different sized squares, so if you plan to make an afghan or a set of these it is best to use the same needle size and yarn for each square.

  1. Is it me? This looks more like a hare than a badger. Must get out more —blast covid.
I love your patterns and am working on an Afghan right now.
Thanks for all your wonderful work.
    Take care
    Jill

      1. Good morning (ignore the comment I sent a bit a few moments ago –same as before) —yes OK I can see the Huffelpuff badger now ——-like those pictures you can see two images —-old lady /young lady —-vase/faces!
Any chance of a frog, lizard(gecko)?
Take care, keep safe in these worrying times.
        Jill

        1. Funny you should suggest a lizard, that’s exactly what’s on my needles at the moment – should be up in a week or so, I have a couple more ready to go in the next few days first 😊 I’ll add frog to my list too. I’m feeling very grateful to live in New Zealand at the moment as we seem to have everything under control here and am very aware much of the rest of the world is not so lucky, so please keep safe yourself and take care, thanks again, Heather

  2. Hi Heather,
Spooky about the lizard. I will look forward to it coming out as I need a reptile to add to my current afghan. I am making a blanket/play mat for a baby expected in Dec. All cotton , aran weight —the squares look fabulous.
The only problem with your patterns is I can’t knit fast enough!! I want to do a seaside themed one, a farm theme, (love the sheep) a jungle theme —heavens, so many inspirations from your work.

If I were you I would stay living safely in New Zealand! The situation in England (parts of the UK are different would you believe) remains worrying. Too many unknowns in respect of easing lockdown restrictions—–really concerned we will see a second spike. Having said that I think we are in a better position than the USA.

    Keep creative, safe and positive
    Jill
