Size and Materials

Size depends on yarn and needle size used:

With DK/Light Worsted Weight yarn and 4 mm (US 6, UK 8) knitting needles, finished squares are approximately 22 cm x 22 cm (8.5 inches x 8.5 inches)

With Worsted Weight yarn and and 4.5 mm knitting needles (US size 7, UK size 7) finished square is approximately 26 cm x 26 cm (10 inches x 10 inches)

Any sized needle and yarn can be used (please refer to yarn label for recommended needle size), however different needle and yarn sizes will produce different sized squares, so if you plan to make an afghan or a set of these it is best to use the same needle size and yarn for each square.

  1. Thank you so much!! I have tried doing a square a week now. These are so nice. You are so awesome for posting these and I really appreciate it.
When I do the letters or numbers, it comes out reversed. I’m left handed and I self taught myself to knit watching YouTube so I know it is something I am doing wrong. Do you have any advice?
I want to try to teach myself how to knit right handed but I am so clumsy with that hand.
    Thanks again!

    1. Glad you like them! I think with the numbers and letters if you read each line backwards (from right to left instead of left to right like we normally read) you should end up with the patterns the right way around.

  2. Hi
I am making blankets for different charities and I am using a number of your squares. I am going to do a dog blanket for our local dog charity so when they rehome a puppy then it goes with them. I know the puppy may chew it but its a nice touch!
Do you have a dog bone pattern?
    Thanks

    1. Hi Anna, that’s such a lovely charity to knit for! I have two rescue dogs myself (Daisy who’s part staffy, part whippet and Storm who’s a border collie cross). I will add dog bone to my list to make ☺️ Thank you, Heather

      1. I’ll send a picture of the one I’m making now so you can see. Not planning to use the bone in that one. Hearts and paws!
Love that you have rescue dogs – we have two rescues – a Belgian shepherd and a beardie and one we got as a puppy a cross between old English sheepdog and a beardie.
        Love them all
Huge thank you for doing these squares.

  3. I was wondering if you do any patriotic squares. I would love to see a flag if you can make one. I do love all the ones that you do. I have enjoyed making them.

    Thank you,
    Darelle George
