Alice in Wonderland Free Amigurumi Pattern

Our latest creation is Alice, the star of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland (and a sometimes Disney Princess). She would be very happy with her friend, the Mad Hatter (free pattern here).

FINISHED SIZE:

Approximately 30 cm (12 inches) tall using worsted weight yarn and 3 mm crochet hook.

Approximately 28 cm (11 inches) tall using DK/Light Worsted Weight yarn and 3 mm crochet hook.

Approximately 20 cm (8 inches) tall using DK/Light Worsted Weight yarn and 2.75 mm crochet hook.

You can use any yarn and crochet hook combination that gives you good tension. Normally this would be a hook at least two sizes smaller than that recommended on the yarn label.

MATERIALS:

•Yarn in flesh, blue, light yellow, white and black (see
note below)
• Crochet hook (3 mm) or appropriate
• Safety eyes 12 mm (optional, can be embroidered
instead)
• Stuffing

You can use any yarn and crochet hook combination that gives you good tension. Normally this would be a hook around two sizes smaller than that recommended on the yarn label. For Alice I used a 2.75 mm hook with 8ply/DK acrylic yarn.

Crochet abbreviations (US terminology):

sc – single crochet

dec – decrease

inc – increase

blo – crochet through back loops only

sl – slip stitch

dc – double crochet

The numbers in brackets at the end of each round indicate how many stitches you should have at the end of the round

Arms (make 2)

Using flesh coloured yarn:

Round 1: 4 sc into magic ring (4)

Round 2: 4 inc (8)

Rounds 3-13: 8 sc (11 rounds)

Fasten off.

Body starting at feet, stuffing as you go:

Legs:

Using black coloured yarn:

Round 1: 6 sc into magic ring (6)

Round 2: 6 inc (12)

Round 3: (3 sc, 3 inc) 2 times (18)

Round 4: 18 sc blo (18)

Round 5: 18 sc

Change to white coloured yarn:

Round 6: 18 sl blo

Round 7: working in blo: 2 sc, 7 dec, 2 sc (11)

Round 8: 2 sc, 1 dec, 4 sc, 1 dec, 1 sc

Round 9-19: 9 sc (11 rounds)

Round 18: 1 inc, 4 sc, 1 inc, 3 sc (11)

Fasten off.

Make second leg, but do not fasten off.

If you are not already at the side of leg with foot facing forward, sc until there. Chain 1 stitch.

Body

Round 1: 11 sc around leg that you fastened off (so legs are then attached to each other), 1 sc in ch, 11 sc around second leg, 1 sc in ch (24)

Round 2: 10 sc, dec, 10 sc, dec (22)

Round 3-7: 22 sc (5 rounds)

sc until at centre of back

Change to blue coloured yarn:

Round 8: 22 sl

Round 9: Working in blo: 5 sc, 1 dec, 9 sc, 1 dec, 4 sc (20)

Round 10-11: 20 sc (2 rounds)

Sc to side of body with feet facing forward if not already there

Round 12: 8 sl around arm, 10 sc on body, 8 sl around other arm, 10 sc on body (36)

Round 13: (1 sc, 1 dec) x 12 (24)

Round 14: 12 dec (12)

Change to flesh coloured yarn:

Round 15: 12 sl blo

Round 16: 12 sc blo

Round 17: 12 inc (24)

Round 18: 24 inc (48)

Round 19-26: 48 sc (8 rounds)

Place safety eyes between rounds 24 and 25, making sure they are centre on face and 8 stitches apart.

Round 27: (6 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (42)

Round 28: (5 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (36)

Round 29: (4 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (30)

Round 30: (3 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (24)

Round 31: (2 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (18)

Round 32: (1 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (12)

Round 33: dec x 6 (6)

Fasten off, gather around fasten off stitches and pull tight to close hole at top of head.

Using black coloured yarn, embroider straps of shoes.

Hair

Using light yellow coloured yarn:

Round 1: 6 sc into magic ring

Round 2: 6 inc (12)

Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) (18)

Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) (24)

Round 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) (30)

Round 6: (4 sc, 1 inc) (36)

Round 7: (5 sc, 1 inc) (42)

Round 8: (6 sc, 1 inc) (48)

Round 9-10: 48 sc (2 rounds)

Round 11: Turn, 3 ch, 6 dc, 1 sc, 1 sl, 1sc, 39 dc

Round 12: Turn, 1 dec, 30 dc

Round 13: Turn, 1 dec, 27 dc

Rounds 14-16: Turn, 28 dc (3 rounds)

Fasten off. Pin hair to head and then sew into place.

Bow

Row 1: 11 ch

Row 2: staring in 2nd ch from hook, 10 sc

Rows 3-6: 1 ch, 10 sc

Fasten off. Find the centre of the bow and wrap yarn tightly around, pulling tightly to for a bow. Pin to head and sew in place.

 Skirt:

Row 1: Working through posts of stitches on body in the last round of white on the body, 22 sl.

Row 2: working through loops closest to legs, 22 sc.

Row 3: (2 sc, 1 inc) x 7, 1 sc (29)

Rows 4-16: 29 sc (13 rounds)

Fasten off.

Apron:

Row 1: 12 ch

Row 2: staring in 2nd ch from hook, 11 sc

Rows 3-8: 1 ch, 11 sc (6 rows)

Row 9: 1 ch, 1 dec, 7 sc, 1 dec (9)

Row 10-12: 1 ch, 9 sc (3 rows)

Row 13: 1 ch, 1 dec, 5 sc, 1 dec (7)

Rows 14-18: 1 ch, 7 sc. Do not fasten off.

Apron strings:

13 ch, place apron on doll and join to other side of top of apron so that chain is around dolls neck.

Below the 1st row of 1 ch, 7 sc, join yarn and 13 ch. Making sure the chain is around the doll’s back, join to other side of apron in same position.

Fasten off.
