Size and Materials

With DK/Light Worsted Weight yarn and 4 mm (US 6, UK 8) knitting needles, finished squares are approximately 22 cm x 22 cm (8.5 inches x 8.5 inches). I highly recommend Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash Yarn.

With Worsted Weight yarn and and 4.5 mm knitting needles (US size 7, UK size 7) finished square is approximately 26 cm x 26 cm (10 inches x 10 inches). I highly recommend Cascade 220 (Aran)

Any sized needle and yarn can be used (please refer to yarn label for recommended needle size), however different needle and yarn sizes will produce different sized squares, so if you plan to make an afghan or a set of these it is best to use the same needle size and yarn for each square.

Free Jungle Themed Dishcloth and Afghan Squares Knitting Patterns

Free Jungle Animals Washcloths and Afghan Squares

As the number of my free washcloth and afghan square knitting patterns has grown, I’ve decided it’s time to start categorizing them to make various themes easier to find. I’ve put the links to all the knitting patterns for Jungle themed squares on this post – animals, plants and insects. This, I hope, will make it easier to find them and also maybe spark some inspiration for some jungle themed afghans and washcloths!

Making these squares, I used Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash. I absolutely love this yarn, it’s 100% wool, machine washable AND can be tumble dried (so great for baby blankets)! The wool is also very soft, and knits up with wonderful stitch definition, which is fantastic for these squares. As 220 Superwash comes in an amazing 135 different shades the colour combinations are almost endless! One ball makes 3 and a bit squares using 4.0 mm needles.

Using this yarn (which is DK or light worsted weight) and 4 mm knitting needles the squares come out at approximately 22 cm square (8.66 inches) after blocking. All the squares on Daisy and Storm are the same size, so as long as you use the same yarn for each they will come out the same size (beware, different brands of yarn, even though they might say they are the same weight, are not always the same thickness as each other and so may not make squares the same size).

Free Santa Hat Dishcloth or Afghan Square Knitting Pattern

Free Knitting Pattern Santa Hat Washcloth Afghan Square

Our latest creation is a free knitting pattern for a Santa Hat Square!

This square would work great as a washcloth or dishcloth , or you could put it together with some of the other squares to make an afghan. Sticking with the Christmas theme, there is also a Christmas tree, Snowman, Gift, Angel, Christmas Stocking, Holly and a Snowflake square (or if, like me, your Christmas is in the middle of summer, perhaps the sun square would be more appropriate?). There are lots of Christmas squares to be found here.

Size and Materials

With DK/Light Worsted Weight yarn and 4 mm (US 6, UK 8) knitting needles, finished squares are approximately 22 cm x 22 cm (8.5 inches x 8.5 inches). I highly recommend Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash Yarn in Really Red.

Chart Instructions

Free Christmas Themed Dishcloth and Afghan Squares Knitting Patterns

Free Christmas Washcloths and Afghan Squares Knitting Patterns

As the number of my free washcloth and afghan square knitting patterns has grown, I’ve decided it’s time to start categorizing them to make various themes easier to find. I’ve put the links to all the knitting patterns for Christmas themed squares on this post. This, I hope, will make it easier to find them and also maybe spark some inspiration for some Christmas themed afghans and washcloths!
