I’ve used multiple colours through this tutorial to make it easier to see what is happening – the pattern calls for black wool throughout (but of course you can use any colour you like)
I made these rounds in red:
Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring
Round 2: 6 inc (12)
Rounds 3-5: 12 sc (3 rounds)
Row 6 is then in blue – 6sc and 1 ch, and then turn so the next row is worked back across the 6 sc of this row

Row 7 is in red – 6 sc and 1 ch, turn so working next row on these 6 sc.

Rows 8 (blue) and 9 (red) are the same as rows 6 and 7 and should end up looking like this:

Round 10: 3 sc down row ends of last three rows (where the blue arrow is), 6 sc across stitches from round 5 (green arrow), 3 sc up row ends of last three rows (yellow arrow), (I’ve done this part in yellow yarn in the next picture)

sl to first sc on other side to join (12)

This leaves a hole in the heel that will be sewed together later (show by the blue arrow in the next photo)

Rounds 11-16: 12 sc (6 rounds) – (sc into the yellow stitches in the photo above for round 11)
