These booties are great for using up left over yarn (and, I don’t know about you, but I have far too much yarn lying around at the moment!). The booties are also pretty easy to make. They are knitted flat on two needles and then seamed along the sole and up the back of the bootie. The pattern uses short rows which means no picking up stitches across the top of the foot (I always find picking up stitches frustrating so Iβm very pleased about this!).
Feel free to use this pattern to make booties for whatever you like β friends, grandchildren, or to sell. I am on a mission to make and donate as much as possible to charity this year, so it would be awesome if you felt like making a pair or two for charity too! Also you could take a look at my other knitting patterns for more stash busting ideas!
There are a few stitches you need to know how to do:
K – Knit
P – Purl
P2tog β purl two stitches together
K1, sl1, psso β knit one stitch, slip the next stitch onto the needle, pass the knitted stitch over the slipped stitch
M1 β make one stitch by picking up the loop between the stitch just worked and the next stitch
Yo β yarn over β wrap the yarn around the needle to create another stitch
Sl β slip stitch (slide stitch onto needle without working it)
Size
Using different sized yarn and/or needles will make different sized booties β larger needles and/or thicker yarn will make larger booties and smaller needles and/or thinner yarn will make smaller booties β not a bad thing if youβre using up your stash by donating to charity as most charities prefer a range of sizes.
3.25 mm needles and light worsted weight/DK wool gives 8 cm booties (newborn to 3 months)
2.5 mm needles and 4 ply (close to sport or fingering) wool gives 7 cm booties (premmie to newborn)
Happy knitting!

Thank you for your generosity in offering your booties pattern! I knit a lot -a Lot!- of booties – I gift them to Gifts for the Unborn, and so I’m always on the lookout for a new pattern – this looks great! I’m going to knit a pair tomorrow ~ thank you again!
Hi! What is k1,psso, turn? – – – I donβt psso, what is turn? Anyone.
Thank you very much
Before the K1 should be sl1 (slip one stitch) the psso means pass slipped stitch over – lift the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch and off the needle – this decreases the knitting by 1 stitch. Hope that helped!
Sorry, forgot the turn part – that means donβt finish the row, turn your work around to start the next row
Sweet little pattern. So quick and easy. Will be using up all my scraps of wool . Thanks Great-grandma 87!!!
A question please, I don’t understand what you mean by turn starting in row 19, could you please explain thank you
Thanks for your question. Instead of working across the entire row, once youβve worked the stitches given in the instruction for that row, you leave the rest of the stitches on the right hand needle, turn your work as you normally would to work the next row. I hope this helps – let me know if you need further explanation.
I just finished making these, great pattern. Thank you
thank you again for answering my question, I followed your instructions and they worked!!!
first bootie done and now on to # 2
Thank you! I made my first Booties ever!!!! All white with pink satin ribbon!
Thank you for your pattern. I made them for a coworker and I think they came out so cute
Thank you for your sharing your pattern, it is very kind of you. These a lovely booties and I am going to make some.
I am a first timer in knitting booties so could you clarify instructions for M1 β make one stitch by picking up the loop between the stitch just worked and the next stitch- do you knit this M1 stitch.
Thanks.
Yes you do knit it. If you find this hard, you can try knitting twice into the same stitch instead. Hope that helps π
Gracias, faciles de hacer y son hermosos!β€οΈπ
gracias π
What method do you use to seam them together?
I use mattress stitch. There is a tutorial on mattress stitch here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ObuZwHlmDCI
I cant find 2.5mm needles on my conversion chart. I want to knit the 4ply pattern so am puzzled as there is no equivalent for this size.
US size 2 (which are 2.75 mm – UK size 12) would work. Hope that helps π
Just finished a pair, very easy to make ! Thanks for sharing this pattern.
Tried following a bootee pattern but having done yours I think its worded wrong as I’ve completed yours no problem nice & easy pattern to follow thank you
Kim
Thanks Kim, glad you liked it π

Hi
I have been meaning to message you for some time. I came across your pattern and it has been an absolute godsend!!!! I consider myself to be an experienced knitter and knit a lot of baby clothes however, when it came to booties I just could not grasp it atall!!! I don’t know why but I think there is always one thing knitters never seem to fathom and mine was booties.
Your pattern is excellent, easy to follow and easy to read instructions. I have now knitted loads in different colours.
So…………thank you so much for sharing this pattern and would recommend to any knitter whether beginner or experienced.
Thanks so much, Edwina π I know what you mean, there was a hat that my partner wanted and it took so many attempts and fudging the pattern before I could get it to work. It finally came out okay but Iβve told him next time Iβm choosing the pattern! Happy knitting
THANK YOU FOR THE FREE PATTERN . I AM KNITTING ABOUT 3 YEARS NOW AND AM STILL LEARNING DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES SO I APPPRECIATE ALL THE ADVICE AND EXPERTIZE YOU OFFER.
Thanks Denise, youβre very welcome π
Hi what is meant by …in row 35 it says (k2tog, yo) i can do that but what is x16 ? Does that mean i do it 16 times or 16 stitches left. Sorry i hope that makes sense haha.
(K2tog yo) 16 times. Thanks π
I am still confused on the 19th row! Knit 27 S1 K1 psso turn. It says I have 46 stitches. What do I do with the 18 stitches that are on the left needle? And I only have 28 stitches on?
Just leave the 18 stitches on the left needle and turn – youβll be working on stitches in the middle of the row for a few rows to form the top of the bootie
So many babies being born right now so much yarn these are so easy so adorable you’re a gem thank you so much
Thank you so much for sharing. Iβm an experienced knitter but have never made booties. Some other patterns totally confused me. I whipped out this pair in no time and they are perfect!
Thanks, Kim π
