Free Jane Austen Amigurumi Pattern (Crochet)

FINISHED SIZE:

Approximately 28 cm (11 inches) tall using DK/Light Worsted Weight yarn and 3 mm crochet hook.

Approximately 30 cm (12 inches) tall using worsted weight yarn and 3 mm crochet hook.

Approximately 20 cm (8 inches) tall using DK/Light Worsted Weight yarn and 2.75 mm crochet hook.

You can use any yarn and crochet hook combination that gives you good tension. Normally this would be a hook at least two sizes smaller than that recommended on the yarn label.

MATERIALS:

  • Yarn in flesh, light blue, blue, white, black and brown (see note below)
  • Crochet hook
  • Safety eyes 12 mm (optional, can be embroidered instead)
  • Stuffing

Note: You can use any yarn and crochet hook combination that gives you good tension. Normally this would be a hook around two sizes smaller than that recommended on the yarn label. For Jane I used a 2.75 mm hook with 8ply/DK/Light Worsted Weight acrylic yarn.

Crochet abbreviations (US terminology):

sc – single crochet

dec – decrease

inc – increase

blo – crochet through back loops only

flo – crochet through front loops only

sl – slip stitch

dc – double crochet

tr – treble crochet

ch – chain

The numbers in brackets at the end of each round indicate how many stitches you should have at the end of the round

Arms (make 2)

Using flesh coloured yarn:

Round 1: 4 sc into magic ring (4)

Round 2: 4 inc (8)

Rounds 3-10: 8 sc (8 rounds)

Change to light blue coloured yarn:

Round 11: 8 sl

Round 12: 8 sc blo

Rounds 13-14: 8 sc (2 rounds)

Fasten off. Repeat for second arm. Lightly stuff both arms.

Legs (make 2)

Using blue coloured yarn:

Round 1: 6 sc into magic ring (6)

Round 2: 6 inc (12)

Round 3: (3 sc, 3 inc) 2 times (18)

Round 4: 18 sc blo (18)

Round 5: 18 sc

Change to flesh coloured yarn:

Round 6: 18 sl blo

Round 7: working in blo: 2 sc, 7 dec, 2 sc (11)

Round 8: 2 sc, 1 dec, 4 sc, 1 dec, 1 sc

Round 9-19: 9 sc (11 rounds)

Round 18: 1 inc, 4 sc, 1 inc, 3 sc (11)

Fasten off.

Make second leg, but do not fasten off.

If you are not already at the side of leg, sc until there. Change to light blue coloured yarn. Chain 1 stitch.

Torso

Round 1: 11 sc around leg that you fastened off (so legs are then attached to each other – make sure both feet are pointing the same way), 1 sc in ch, 11 sc around second leg, 1 sc in ch (24)

Round 2: 10 sc, dec, 10 sc, dec (22)

Round 3-7: 22 sc (5 rounds)

Round 8: 5 sc, 1 dec, 9 sc, 1 dec, 4 sc (20)

Round 9-10: 20 sc (2 rounds)

Sc to side of body if not already there

Round 11: 8 sl around arm, 10 sc on body, 8 sl around other arm, 10 sc on body (36)

Change to white coloured yarn

Round 12: 36 sl

Round 13: In blo (1 sc, 1 dec) x 12 (24)

Round 13: 12 dec (12)

Head

Change to flesh coloured yarn:

Round 1: 12 sl

Round 2: 12 sc blo

Round 3: 12 inc (24)

Round 4: 24 inc (48)

Round 5-12: 48 sc (8 rounds)

Place safety eyes between rounds 10 and 11, making sure they are centre on face and 8 stitches apart.

Round 13: (6 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (42)

Round 14: (5 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (36)

Round 15: (4 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (30)

Round 16: (3 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (24)

Round 17: (2 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (18)

Make sure head is stuffed before continuing.

Round 18: (1 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (12)

Round 19: dec x 6 (6)

Fasten off, gather around fasten off stitches and pull tight to close hole at top of head.

Hair

Using brown coloured yarn:

Round 1: 6 sc into magic ring

Round 2: 6 inc (12)

Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) (18)

Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) (24)

Round 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) (30)

Round 6: (4 sc, 1 inc) (36)

Round 7: (5 sc, 1 inc) (42)

Round 8: (6 sc, 1 inc) (48)

Round 9-14: 48 sc (6 rounds)

Round 15: Turn, 3 ch, 6 dc, 1 sc, 1 sl, 1sc, 39 dc, sl to join

Fasten off. Pin hair to head and then sew into place.

Skirt

Using light blue coloured yarn

Row 1: Working through posts of stitches on body between the 3rd and 4th row of blue from the top of the body, 20 sc.

Working in blo, 3 ch, sl in same stitch chain is attached to, (2 sl, 3 ch, sl in same stitch as 1 sl) x 19, 1 sl.

Fasten off.

Dress Ribbon

Using blue coloured yarn 40 ch. Starting in second chain from hook, 39 sc. Fasten off. Pin around waist where skirt begins, with tails hanging down middle of back and sew in place.

Dress Bow

Using blue coloured yarn 8 ch

Row 1: 7 sc

Rows 2-4: 1 ch, 7sc (3 rows)

Fasten off. Find the centre of the bow and wrap yarn tightly around, pulling tightly to form a bow. Pin to back and sew in place.

Using white coloured yarn:

Round 1: 6 sc into magic ring

Round 2: 6 inc (12)

Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) (18)

Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) (24)

Round 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) (30)

Round 6: (4 sc, 1 inc) (36)

Round 7: (5 sc, 1 inc) (42)

Round 8: (6 sc, 1 inc) (48)

Round 9: (7 sc, 1 inc) (56)

Rounds 10-15: 56 sc (6 rounds)

Change to blue coloured yarn:

Round 16: 56 sl

Round 17: 56 sc blo

Change to white coloured yarn:

Round 18: 56 sl

Round 19: 56 sc

Round 20: (7 sc, 1 dec) x 6 (48)

Round 21: 3 ch, sl in same stich as chain is attached, (1 sl, ch 3, sl into same stitch as 1 sl) x 47.

Fasten off.

Book

Using black coloured yarn:

Row 1: 9 ch

Row 2: starting in 2nd ch from hook, 8 sc

Row 3-17: 1 ch, 8 sc (15 rows)

Fasten off.

Using white colour yarn:

Row 1: 8 ch

Row 2: starting in 2nd ch from hook, 7 sc

Row 3-12: 1 ch, 7 sc (10 rows)

Fasten off.

Fold white in half for pages, fold black in half over the top of the white pages to form cover. Pin and sew book together.
